Dr. Adam Back is a British cryptographer and inventor of Hashcash (1997), the proof-of-work algorithm that Satoshi Nakamoto cited in the Bitcoin whitepaper and adapted as Bitcoin's consensus mechanism. Back is CEO and co-founder of Blockstream, the leading Bitcoin infrastructure company, which develops the Liquid Network, c-lightning, satellite broadcasting of the Bitcoin blockchain, and hardware signing devices. He is one of very few individuals to have received direct email from Satoshi Nakamoto before the Bitcoin launch and remains a core figure in Bitcoin development.
