Ross Ulbricht is the creator of the Silk Road, the first major darknet marketplace that demonstrated Bitcoin's potential for permissionless commerce. He was arrested in 2013 and sentenced to life in prison in 2015. Following intense advocacy from the Bitcoin community, President Donald Trump granted him a full pardon in January 2025.
