Proton Wallet is a self-custodial Bitcoin wallet built by Proton AG, the Swiss privacy company behind Proton Mail and Proton VPN. Launched in 2024, it is Bitcoin-only, open source, and uses end-to-end encryption so that only the user holds their keys — not even Proton can access funds. A standout feature is "Bitcoin via Email," which allows users to send Bitcoin to anyone using just an email address, abstracting away raw addresses while preserving privacy through address pooling.
